Encounters at sunset

Sunset is always a magic moment of our walk. It creates an atmosphere that goes beyond sight and embraces the other senses.

On the beach it’s even more intense.

The orange of the sun is reflected on a surface of golden sand, clashes against the blue of the sky and diffuses a sense of warmth on the forms of nature.

A colder evening breeze coming from the horizon entices us to go home and revisit our past day.

We become more contemplative.

Birds stop singing; even the waves seem to calm. In the middle of this atmosphere we spot two fishermen getting closer to the coast; we hear their chatter getting louder.

We help them pulling the boat back to shore and stop to get to know them.

They’re cheerful and loquacious. One of them tells us that he travelled the world working on vessels.

It may seem like small talk, but it means so much to us; it allows us to get to know the people who inhabit this landscape and have a life-story to tell.

When the sun goes down we say good-bye and resume our walk towards Torre Manfria, in which we’ll spend the night in a log cabin.

Thanks to each new encounter we feel a little more part of the country we’re crossing. Additionally, walking from sunrise to sunset leaves us with a feeling of community with the environment.

And you, have you ever felt a desire to connect with nature, to become one with the landscape around?
