Rocks of Corleone

We walk through constant ups and downs, a landscape made of waves of claystone, like the rippled surface of a seaway.

In the Sicani Mountains it is common to see rocks outcropping in the middle of a sea of fields.

These “searocks” are made of limestone, the same that forms the majestic mountains of this area, like Rocca Busambra.

Both mountains and hills are sedimentary rocks that tell the geological history of this place. Shallow seas, like coral reefs of today’s Bahamas, gave way to deep, open seas, in which clayey sediments got deposited.

Here are the two things.

The ploughed fields: the deep sea.

The mountains and the “searocks”: the coral reef.
